“There is no one reason for mountain biking. There’s the pure enjoyment of racing off road. It’s always challenging. When you’re going fast and giving it everything, even the easiest of trails become incredibly technical. You will never perfect mountain biking and no ride will ever be the same.”
A life on two wheels is second nature to Bec who spent her childhood chasing her brother and father through the local trails in Australia. Broken bones, scrapes and bruises shape some of her earliest memories of falling off her bike. She starting competing at the age of ten, going on to compete in the Junior worlds category at sixteen.
2022 has been a huge year for the Australian, who raced her way to the top of the XCO women’s leaderboard with a historical three consecutive wins at the beginning of the season, a career highlight that Bec was proud to share with her PMG family. “The first win was incredible. I hadn’t seen anyone from my team for six months and had been through some huge personal challenges. They had no idea what to expect form my performance in Petrópolis, Brazil. To come and win was a nice surprise for them as much as me.
We are group of friends who have a passion for racing mountain bikes at the highest level. From the outside we’ve been called ‘not serious’because we smile and laugh a lot and enjoy every moment. When it’s time to work we give 100% and are focused. Everyone just loves what they do, so it’s impossible not to enjoy it.”

“When you’re going fast and giving it everything, even the easiest of trails become incredibly technical. You will never perfect mountain biking and no ride will ever be the same.”
Winning her first world cup was the catalyst to shift her perspective, nurturing the idea to be present in the moment instead of obsessing over the future, unable to live through the good, bad and mundane moments that are happening in real time.
This new mantra allowed Bec to experience race days in a new way, enjoying the simple rituals such as the warm up, or waiting to be called to the start line, “During the race I still have to convince myself I’m closer to the finish than I think because the pain of racing is so much. I have to persuade myself that it’s not too many climbs left, or laps, etc. we can’t be perfectly present in every moment!”
The second part of this new philosophy is progression. Continuing to work hard and seeing the progress each race, or each season. Understanding that sometimes you have to take twenty steps back to be able to move forward, trusting that this journey is part of the process to improve.
“This season I have learned how strong I am as an individual. My entire life changed, from how I was living, travelling, training and preparing for races. I found my independence which gave me a lot of confidence. That doesn’t mean I don’t rely on all the people around me for support, it’s allowed me to stand on my own two feet and achieve all that we did. Personal growth is often so challenging but it’s always rewarding, but for now it’s time for a nice big rest.”
